Name: Shilen Pattni
Catergory of governor: Chair of the Governing Body
Term of office: I have been a Governor at Sandfield Close Primary School for over 5 years.  I was initially appointed as a Parent Governor and was fortunate to be Chair of Governors since 2015.
Work: I have worked for Leicester City Council for over fourteen years and I am currently working in the capacity of a Senior Programme Manager for the authority.
Governance experience: I was a governor at Gateway Sixth Form College for four years. 
Hobbies and interests:  
Links to the school area: I have two children who attend SCPS, my daughter is currently in Year 6 and my son is in Year 1.
Why did you become a governor? I became a Governor as I have a keen interest in raising standards for all children in education.  I am also interested in ensuring that children are learning in an environment that is safe, and that the school encourages confidence and independent thought.

 



 

 

Name: Paresh Ruparel
Catergory of governor: Parent Governor
Term of office: Since October 2014
Work:

I previously worked as a Business & Management Consultant assisting hundreds of organisations in the UK. Incorporated within the role was supporting many schools in Leicester and Leicestershire achieve the National Investors In People Standard.

Following a career change I completed a degree in Optometry and managed the Diabetic Eye Screening Service at Derby Hospitals. Currently I am working at University Hospitals of Leicester as an Assistant Contract Manager.  
Governance experience: I have been a Parent Governor at Sandfield Close Primary School since 2014. Prior to this I was a Community Governor for 8 years at a Special Needs School in Leicester where I was Chair of the Finance and Staffing Committee and served as Vice Chair of the Governing Body.
Hobbies and interests: I enjoy football, cricket, tennis, cycling and walking. I also like watching nature documentaries and travelling.
Links to the school area: I have lived on the Rushey Mead Estate since 1984
Why did you become a governor? I became a governor as I am passionate about organisational improvement and assisting, indirectly, the education of individual pupils to ensure they reach their potential.

Stephen Thompson

Catergory of governor: Local Authority Governor (Leicester City Council)
Term of office: 39 years
Work: I work as a Production Operative in the Food Industry (Samworth Brothers) and prior to that was employed in the Hosiery Trade as a Production Controller.
Governance experience:

I have been a Governor here since 1980 and was Chairman of the Governors from 1984-1994.

I was also a Governor at Northfield House Primary School for 13 years from 2000, I’ve served on Finance Committees at both schools and regularly do the Annual Health & Safety Audit.

I was a Leicester City Councillor1999-2007and have served on the Education Committee.
Hobbies and interests: I’m an active member of the Methodist Church worshipping at Edgehill Methodists and involved in our Churches Together Group. My hobbies are family history research, visiting historic places, photography and line-dancing.
Links to the school area: I live in the same ward as the school (Troon Ward) and have lived at my current address for over 40 years, and attend events and meetings at the neighbouring St.Theodore’s Church.
Why did you become a governor? I was asked in 1980 if I would like become a School Governor and having studied Chemistry & Education at York University (BA Hons 1973-1976) I felt here was a good opportunity to contribute to a local school and also repay my gratitude for the Education I received at Schools in Leicester 1960-1973.

Daksha Daudia

A co-opted Governor  

Term of office: I have been a Governor at Sandfield Close Primary School since 2006.
Work:

I am a Pharmacist by profession and have lived and worked in the local community for many years , and therefore had a good understanding and knowledge of the people in the local community. 

Governance experience:

Parent Governor from March 2006 to March 2014.

LEA Governor April 2014 to January 2015 .

Then a co-opted Governor to the present date . 

Hobbies and interests: I love to read and cook.
Links to the school area: Lived and worked in the local community or many years , and therefore had a good understanding and knowledge of the people in the local community. 
Why did you become a governor?

I became a Governor because I feel passionately about giving the best solid education foundation to our children that can help them learn and achieve their full potential. I have a keen interest in teaching methods and programmes that are innovative and abreast of modern learning.

Ketan Sonecha

Term of office: Since January 2017
Work: I work as an Accountant in a local accountancy practice. I have been working there since 2008.
Governance experience: I have been a parent Governor for Sandfield since January 2017.
Hobbies and interests: I like football, cricket, walking and enjoy running in my spare time.
Links to the school area: My son attends Sandfield Close Primary School.
Why did you become a governor? It gives you a real insight into how schools are run, challenges they face and how you can assist as governor to achieve its full potential.
