Books read aloud by authors
Hello parents and children,
CLPE, Centre for Literacy in Primary Education , have kindly shared some videos of stories read aloud by the authors themselves. It is fabulous to have stories read out aloud by the actual author! Here is a link to CLPE's, Centre for Literacy in Primary Education , webpage: https://clpe.org.uk/clpe/free-resources
Parents, please watch the videos of the stories being read aloud with your child. When you have watched it a couple of times and enjoyed the story, you could discuss the following with your child:
Can you retell the story?
Can you tell me what happened in the story?
What was your favourite part of the story? Why?
Who was your favourite character? Why?
Do you like the way the story ended? Can you think of another ending?
Can you make up a similar story to the one the author told?
Can you write a letter to the author, letting him/ her know what your thoughts are about his/her book and why?
Can you write a book review about the book you heard?
Can you write a retelling of the story from another characters point of view?
Children, once you have heard a story read to you by an author on the CLPE website, you can write a book review in your very best handwriting about the book you have heard. You can send a photo or scan of your book review to your class teacher in Google Classroom.
The book review can have the following structure:
A summary of the book (without giving away the ending!):
A summary about the relationship between the characters:
What was the most exciting part and why:
A thank you message to the author about what you loved about the book and why:
A thank you message to CLPE for the access:
