Lego Stars in Year 5

Our Sandfield Lego Stars preparing for the Junior Lego League Competition

All through the Autumn term 10 children from Year 5 have met on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings to prepare for the Junior Lego League.  The equipment has been lent to us from DeMontfort University who are hosting the competition.

Children have build a robot to complete different challenges, the children then have to code the robot to make it move independently.

Another part of the competition looked at the Lego Core Values which are similar to our Science Principles and we had to explain how we worked to incorporate them into our sessions.  We also had to identify a problem with City Living and come up with solutions that might make things easier in the future.  We linked these to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  Finally we had to produce a powerpoint.

During the actual competition we had to answer questions from the judges.  It was a very enjoyable day and we all got a fantastic Lego medal.
