RAF youth engage
Dr Alison Buxton, who represents RAF Youth Engage and STEAM, worked with all the children in Years 5 and 6.
On Monday 18th March 2019, Year 5 were fortunate to be working with Dr Buxton in the morning and Year 6 worked with her in the afternoon. Dr Buxton represented RAFyouthengage and STEAM and talked to the children about engineering in all the different forms this can take. Children were set a challenge to build a disaster relief plan that involved coding a robot to overcome potential obstacles children would design and make in order to deliver aid. This linked very well to our Year 6 unit on Natural disasters and to our Year 5 work on team skills and cooperation.
Our children learnt many things about engineering and how this impacts on everyday life. Children also learnt many skills such as planning, cooperation, communication, creativity, coding, engineering materials, teamwork and leadership.
